Fire pits are the most common outdoor fire feature. Fire pits come in a variety of different sizes, shapes, colors, and materials. A fire pit ledge is anywhere between 2" to 5" wide, which is large enough to place a drink or a small plate on. When it comes to fire pits there are two main heights, occasional and chat height.
Fire Pits Heights:
- Occasional Height: 16" to 18"
- Chat Height: 20" to 24"
Fire Tables
A fire table is an outdoor dining table with a flame centerpiece. A fire table ledge is anywhere between 6" to 12". Fire tables are ideal for dining outdoors because unlike fire pits, it can fit multiple plates and drinks. Fire tables four main heights are occasional, chat, dinning, and bar height.
Fire Tables Heights:
- Occasional Height: 16" to 18"
- Chat Height: 20" to 24"
- Dining Height: 28" to 30"
- Bar Height: 40" to 42"
Fire Bowls
Fire bowls tend to be relatively small; they are normally 36" in diameter or smaller. Fire bowls produce less heat than fire pits and are typically used to add ambiance to an outdoor space. Fire bowls two main heights are occasional and chat height, and they have little to no ledge.

- Occasional Height: 16" to 18"
- Chat Height: 20" to 24"
Choosing the Right Outdoor Fire Feature
